Pros and cons of CWText app for iPhone and iPad

CWText app good for

I wanted to increase my CW speed to 25 WPM and tried several of the apps on ITunes but I found none that works and sounds as good as CW Text. Over the last several weeks I have achieved greater speed and accuracy simply by sitting down and using this simple but effective app.
Ive found this particularly useful with its stories and word lists. Ive loaded in my own simple texts as well using the paid function.

Some bad moments

This app is excellent if you are serious about CW. I have not tried the other CW apps but the reviews implied these were party toys. This app is for hams and others who already know the code and want to improve speed (12 to 50 wpm). I like the ability to only do Q signs, or numbers, or words, or an entire story. In train mode it gives you the word after it is sent. My only minor complaint is I wish it included a choice for just common and another for less common punctuation. WELL worth $0.99. I will use this on trips to get my speed back up. He has another app to learn CW-have not tried it. I am a US Extra class ham and really appreciate this app!
This app works very nice. There is one drawback: The lowest code speed allowed is 12 wpm. The reason I purchased this app was to encourage one of my family members to practice Morse code. What a disappointment when we both found out he could not use it. It makes no sense to me that it is limited to 12 wpm or greater. If you are a Morse novice hoping to improve, this is not the app for you.
Excellent practice app. Im working on getting copy speed up to 40 wpm and find the random words with long word spacing very useful for learning word patterns. Get it if you are serious about improving skill.
This app along with the other Morse app CWSpeed, are the perfect tools for learning Morse. Heres why: they are completely adjustable to your level of morse. This app in particular is what a ham needs to practice real world copying. If youre like me, receiving is much harder than sending. This app will help greatly with that. If youre new to CW, start out with CWSpeed to learn the alphabet and numbers, then use this app to apply and hone that knowledge into what youll actually be hearing on the radio. There is no magic app to shove Morse into your brain without practice. Practice a lot, and when you practice, use this app!
If you are just learning code, this is the perfect program. If you already know code, this is the perfect program. Most people think that they must start out learning code at 2 to 5 words a minute and build up there speed from there. This is not the best way to learn. You want to start out hearing the code at 12 to 17 words a minute with a pause between each letter. This lets your brain hear the letters at a fast pace but still have time to associate the code with each letter. Thats why this program has 12 WPM as the slowest speed. This is not a drawback, this is forcing you to learn the correct way. If you choose to learn starting at a very slow speed, you will probably top out at about 10 WPM. I learned Morse Code 40 years ago and used it as a Ham operator for about 10 years. This is the perfect program to help me get my speed and confidence back up. Just the program I was looking for. Thank you!
You really need more than one app to learn CW. This is the second one. Get CW Speed first, and use the Koch method for learning the characters. Once you have some knowledge of how they sound, then get CW Text. You can listen to the characters within a word and become comfortable in code. I am 60 years old and IT DID NOT COME EASY! But I started this because my memory was getting bad. It has helped my memory and after 6 months, I am listening at 20 wpm at about 80% recognition. Im sure a younger man will do much better. The app is well written, doesnt crash, and very useful.
